Video Won't Upload or Play — Common Fixes
Troubleshooting checklist for failed video uploads, stuck processing, and playback errors.
Video issues almost always trace back to either the upload step or the connected provider account, rather than a Koursely-side bug. Work through these in order.
Upload fails immediately or times out
Check the file size and format against your connected provider's limits — very large files on a slow connection can also simply time out mid-upload. Try a smaller test file first to isolate whether it's a size/format issue or a connection issue.
Upload succeeds but the video is stuck "processing" for a long time
Video providers transcode uploads into multiple quality levels before they're playable, which can take several minutes for longer videos. If it's been stuck for over 30–60 minutes with no progress, check your provider's own dashboard directly — the processing job may have failed there even though the upload to Koursely succeeded.
Video plays for you but not for students
Confirm the lesson (and the module it's in) is actually published and not still in draft status, and that the student's enrollment or drip-schedule unlock date has actually been reached — a locked or draft lesson can look identical to a broken one from the outside.
Video plays but with no sound, or heavily buffers
This usually points to the source file itself (a muted export, or a bitrate too high for typical mobile connections) rather than a platform issue — re-export the source file at a standard web-friendly bitrate and re-upload.
"Provider not configured" or similar error on upload
Confirm you've actually connected a video provider under Settings → Integrations → Video Hosting — this is a required one-time setup step before any video can be uploaded. See Video Hosting Setup.
Isolate the layer before assuming it's Koursely. If a video plays correctly when previewed directly from your video provider's own dashboard but not inside Koursely, the issue is in how it's embedded; if it doesn't even play from the provider's dashboard, the issue is with the upload/processing itself.
