Building Quizzes and Assessments (Course Quizzes vs Lesson Quizzes)
Understand the two quiz systems in Koursely and when to use each, plus how passing scores and attempts work.
Koursely has two related but distinct quiz systems. Knowing which one you're using matters because they're built and reused differently.

Building a Course Quiz
- Go to Assessments → Quizzes and create a new quiz with a title and description.
- Set a passing score — this defaults to 70%, which you can adjust per quiz.
- Optionally set a maximum number of attempts and a time limit; leave either blank for unlimited attempts or no time cap.
- Add questions. You can enable randomized question order per attempt to reduce answer-sharing between students.
- Decide whether to show results immediately after submission or withhold them.
- Publish the quiz, then attach it to a placement: after a specific lesson, after a module, or after the entire course.
Building a Lesson Quiz
- From within a specific lesson's editor, add a quiz directly to that lesson.
- Add questions the same way as a course quiz — this quiz only ever applies to this one lesson and isn't reusable elsewhere.
How Passing Interacts With Course Completion
If a quiz is required at a placement point (for example, after Module 2), a student must meet the passing score to have that section count as complete — which in turn affects certificate eligibility if the course requires 100% completion. A quiz with no required passing score simply records the attempt without blocking progress.
Use Course Quizzes for anything you'll reuse. If the same assessment logic (say, a "module 1 knowledge check") might apply across more than one course, build it as a reusable Course Quiz rather than duplicating a Lesson Quiz in each place.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a student retake a quiz they failed?
Yes, unless you've set a maximum attempt limit — once that cap is reached, further attempts are blocked and you'd need to manually reset their attempt count if you want to allow another try.
Are quiz results visible to me as the instructor?
Yes — attempt history, scores, and pass/fail status are visible per student from the course's assessment reporting.
